ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has decided to provide a 50 percent discount on electricity prices for electric vehicle charging stations.

Currently, charging stations are provided electricity at Rs45 per unit, and with taxes included, the cost surges to Rs71.10 per unit.

The federal government has decided that charging stations will now be charged Rs23.57 per unit while it will cost Rs39 per unit after a reduction in tax rates.

The government has submitted a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to set new rates for EV charging stations. The authority will hold a hearing on the government petition on February 12.

The petition states that the difference between the current and new rates will be managed through cross-subsidization, and all taxes and adjustments will apply at the new rates.

The proposed rates aim to help achieve the electric vehicles’ target by 2030. The government has planned to transition 30% of vehicles in Pakistan to electric by 2030.
