Pakistan's total debt surpasses Rs72 trillion

Every citizen owes Rs350,000
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s total debt has exceeded Rs72 trillion, marking every citizen liable for over Rs350,000.
According to the latest data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the country’s total debts rose from Rs64.84 trillion to Rs72.12 trillion in one year, making an 11 per cent increase and a 0.7 per cent rise in a single month.
Domestic debts surged from Rs42 trillion to 50.24 trillion, reflecting a 17. 9 per cent increase over the year.
Meanwhile, external debt saw a slight 1.5 per cent decline, reaching Rs21. 88 trillion.
Economic experts warn that debt servicing payments have surpassed Rs.5.5 trillion, with the alarming rise in domestic debts attributed to excessive government spending.
