QUETTA (Dunya News) – Pakistan has taken a significant step towards expanding land-based trade through Gwadar Port, with stakeholders discussing measures to facilitate transit and commercial activities at the port.
A meeting was held at the Directorate General of Transit Trade, Customs House Karachi, under the chairmanship of Gwadar Port Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch.
The meeting focused on ways to promote Iranian transit trade, TIR facilities and other land-based commercial activities through Gwadar Port.
Representatives of Pakistan Customs, the Gwadar Port Authority, chambers of commerce, traders and clearing agents attended the meeting and discussed obstacles affecting trade operations through the port.
Participants examined measures to make commercial procedures more efficient and address issues faced by businesses involved in transit trade.
The meeting also considered practical steps to expand Iranian transit trade and facilitate the use of the TIR system through Gwadar Port.
It was decided that a follow-up meeting would be held in Gwadar soon. Relevant government officials, members of the business community and clearing agents will present their concerns and proposals during the meeting.
Officials said efforts were continuing to make land-based trade through Gwadar Port more active and strengthen transit trade facilities.
