They still need 254 runs with Ireland in a stronger position
BULAWAYO (Reuters) - Zimbabwe were reeling on 38-3 at the close of play on the third day on Saturday after being set a 292-run target to win the only test against Ireland at the Queens Sport Club.
They still need 254 runs with Ireland in a stronger position as they are seven wickets away from victory.
Ireland, 83-1 overnight in their second innings, were dismissed for 298 earlier on Saturday with captain Andy Balbirnie top scoring with 66 and wicket keeper Lorcan Tucker contributing 58 while Richard Ngarava was the best of the home bowlers with figures of 4-55.
Zimbabwe, who had a seven-run lead after the first innings, saw openers Ben Curran and Takudzwanashe Kaitano dismissed inside the first seven overs as they began their run chase, followed by debutant Nick Welch, who had scored 90 in the first innings.
Brian Bennett on 15 not out and nightwatchman Trevor Gwandu will resume on Sunday.
