Quetta customs foils bid to smuggle sugar and fertilisers

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Customs authorities claimed on Tuesday to have seized 37,200 bags comprising sugar and fertilisers being smuggled to a neighboring country.
According to custom authorities, officials confiscated huge amount of sugar and fertilisers being smuggled to the neighboring country. The seized goods included sugar worth Rs11 million and fertilisers amounting to Rs3m. The seized bags were being transported in 45 trucks.
The customs authorities registered 59 cases for smuggling sugar, whereas three cases were registered for smuggling fertiliser in the month of April. The cases are being registered against the drivers and the owners of the vehicle.
The Quetta region collector customs said the borders are being closed or strictly monitored at several points to curb smuggling attempts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has recently ordered the authorities to take strict action against the smuggling of sugar and other essential commodities.
