Kaira assures cooperation for AIOUs TV channel
Qamar Zaman Kaira has assured for AIOUs non-commercial educational TV channel.
ISLAMABAD: Addressing the Seerat-un-Nabi Conference speech held at Nusrat Bhutto Auditorium of the AIOU, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that he would try to accomplish the task within the remaining tenure of the incumbent government, adding that Radio Pakistan and PTV would be asked to train the manpower of the proposed channel.
The minister regretted that Muslims were facing problems in their daily lives, because they had failed to apply the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s in their practical lives, besides leading hypocritical lives.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi said that the University was striving to design its syllabus with an objective of increasing the knowledge and bring a positive change in one’s behavior.
He stressed that besides teaching morality through radio and television channels, the University would print moral lessons on the caption of the 2.5 million books printed every semester, and refresher courses would also be arranged for muezzins and khateebs of mosques to train them according to modern trends so that they may spread the message to masses through their sermons.
He disclosed that the University has launched a project to teach drop-out students and in the first phase around 10,500 students had been enrolled setting a target to teach another 15,000 in Chitral next year, and always has been utilizing all potential and resources to expand and strengthening educational network in the country.
“AIOU has the best Radio, TV studios, all the educational Radio, TV programmes of the University are prepared here under the supervision of the most trained producers and engineers, he said.
The AIOU, he said that AIOU is working on a vision to promote its educational activities to the students living in far-flung and rural areas to ensure equal access to quality education.
It was also announced that AIOU would also start an open-schooling programme titled ‘Educate a Child’, it has set a target of educating one million children through this scheme: besides focusing on introduction socio-economic, skill-based courses, so that the students could be able earn their livelihood and take part in the country’s overall development.
Dr. Sangi also proposed suggestions including approval of “non-commercial TV channels”, “Educational Media Institution”.
Vice-President International Islamic University, Prof. Sajid ur Rehman suggested the information Minister to set up an exclusive unit at radio and TV channels to air research-oriented programmes in order to acquaint the community of basic Islamic moralities and guidelines.
