The video, which went viral on social media platform X, features a voice attributed to Akhtar questioning why Rizwan was being punished and criticising the situation surrounding Pakistan cricket.
The clip also purportedly contains criticism of Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson, alleging that the coach was damaging Rizwan’s career because of personal differences and questioning the Pakistan Cricket Board’s response.
However, Akhtar rejected the authenticity of the video.
Commenting below the circulating post from his official X account, Akhtar wrote: “It’s a fake video.”
His response makes clear that the remarks attributed to him in the viral clip were not genuine.
The video had been shared widely amid ongoing discussion surrounding Rizwan’s position in Pakistan cricket, but Akhtar’s clarification indicates that the statements circulating under his name should not be treated as his views.
