Pakistan, Unicef ink MoU for procurement of vaccines under Polio Emergency Programme
The interim government has committed $155 million to eradicate polio from the country
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan and Unicef have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for procurement of vaccines under the Polio Emergency Programme.
The interim government has committed $155 million to eradicate polio from the country and secured an additional $100 million in support from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
Another €500 million aims to expand the innovation capacity of health systems in low- and middle-income countries. This includes new funding to innovations like mRNA-based vaccines and therapeutics more accessible to people in low- and middle-income countries.

“The new funds will not only help to drive us towards a #polio-free world, but will also help to build more sustainable and resilient health systems to protect the same children and communities who are at risk of polio against the many other health threats they face,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in his latest address involving polio disease.
