Judge and lawyers argued on guardianship of children

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Islamabad High Court (IHC), after hearing arguments of lawyers on Tuesday, adjourned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s disqualification in Tyrian White case until March 29.

A bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq heard the case of not declaring Mr Khan's alleged daughter Tyrian White in his nomination papers.

During the hearing of the case, the petitioner’s counsel Hamid Ali Shah read PTI Chief’s affidavit submitted in 2018 and argued that it had mentioned only his sons’ details. Mr Khan, in the affidavit, had showed that he was not the guardian of the children as they were living with their mother, it further read. The lawyer argued it was not the matter of guardianship as a daughter was under her father's guardianship until her marriage.

CJ Amir Farooq remarked that word under sponsorship was written in the affidavit and not the child, and questioned what its consequences would be then? Responding to it, Khan’s counsel Salman Akram Raja argued that the details of his sons were mentioned in the papers because they were under his guardianship. Petitioner’s counsel contended that if the sons were under sponsorship earlier, why their details were being mentioned now?

CJ inquired what would happen if the names of the two sons were not given. Responding to the query, Mr Raja said that it didn’t matter as they were not under Khan’s custody.

The petitioner’s counsel said that Imran Khan should, face the allegation. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani then remarked that you meant Mr Khan should carry the burden on his shoulders for no reason.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing until March 29.
