KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pakistan has witnessed the third supermoon of the current year today (Thursday).

The distance between the moon and earth will be the least at the time of the supermoon.

Supermoon can also be seen in New Zealand, Japan, and Australia.

According to astronomers, the moon appears large in size and more bright when the distance between the moon and earth gets reduced.

Supermoon gazing is a spectacular and mesmerising experience.

The next supermoon will be lighting up the skies on Nov 15.

While sailing in its orbit when the moon comes closest to earth, i.e. 226,000 kilometres, it shines 14pc more brightly and appears 7pc bigger. This is when it is called a supermoon.

Sometimes, there are two moons in a single month of the lunar calendar. When this phenomenon occurs, the second moon is called a Blue Moon.
