The deputy speaker urged the government to be more accommodating
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Assembly passed the Notaries Amendment Bill 2025 with a majority vote, sparking heated exchange between the government and the opposition.
During the session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister strongly criticised the opposition’s proposed amendments, calling them ineffective.
His remarks led to a sharp reaction, with opposition members standing in protest and objecting to his comments.
Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channar intervened, advising Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehamn to avoid such statements. However, the minister defended his stance, stating that he was not bound by the opposition’s demands.
The deputy speaker urged the government to be more accommodating and apologised on behalf of the minister, ordering the removal of offensive words from the record.
He further noted that power often leads to arrogance and suggested that Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman should have retracted his remarks.
