KARACHI (Dunya News) - The post-mortem examination of 67 bodies recovered from the tragic Gul Plaza incident has been completed, while 16 victims have so far been identified, according to Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Samia Syed.

Dr Samia Syed said that six bodies recovered from the building were identifiable, while the identities of eight victims were confirmed through DNA analysis. She added that one body was identified using a national identity card, while another was identified through a locket worn around the neck.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor has demanded a judicial inquiry into the Gul Plaza tragedy to determine responsibility for the incident.

Separately, Senior Fire Officer Zafar Khan told the media that a fire reignited in the building’s basement but was successfully extinguished. He said that a diesel tank installed on the rooftop had not been removed earlier, and during the removal process, it caught fire, which was promptly controlled.

Zafar Khan further stated that the structure of the building has been severely weakened. “Only search operations remain underway now. No intact bodies are being recovered from the debris; only skeletal remains are being found,” he said.

Rescue and search efforts are continuing as authorities work to complete the final phase of operations.
