The development came in a case registered against the two for protesting outside the IHC.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Hours after the arrest of lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha on Friday, the couple was sent to jail on judicial remand by an anti-terrorism court.
The development came in a case registered against the two for protesting outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and allegedly manhandling the IHC Bar Association (IHCBA) president.
The case was heard by ATC Judge Abu al-Hasanat Zulqarnain. After the hearing, the court issued the judicial remand order, directing that both Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali be kept in custody for 14 days.
The couple was arrested yesterday while they were on their way from the Islamabad High Court to the District Court when they were stopped near Serena Chowk and arrested. A large number of lawyers were accompanying them at the time.
Imaan and Hadi, who have been involved in a controversial tweets case, had announced that they would not back down from their stance. Speaking to the media, they said they were standing firmly by their position and would not retreat from it, even if it meant going to jail.
Earlier, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had ordered Imaan and Hadi to appear in person in the case.
It should be recalled that in the controversial tweet case, the Islamabad High Court (IHC), in its written verdict, had declared the trial court’s order of not arresting Imaan and Hadi null and void. The IHC granted four days to cross-examine witnesses. If they fail to appear before the trial court, this order will be considered void.
The District and Sessions Courts Islamabad directed advocates Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha to appear in person on Friday in the controversial tweets case.
