KARACHI (Dunya News) - The medico-legal process of the remains of 73 bodies, recovered during search and rescue operations after the Gul Plaza tragedy, has been completed, Dunya News reported.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that with the help of DNA testing, three more bodies have been identified. So far, a total of 27 bodies have been identified. For 65 missing persons, 56 family DNA samples have been collected. The number of people who lost their lives in the incident has now reached 74.
Meanwhile, the University of Karachi has received DNA samples of 48 bodies. Search operations and debris removal at Gul Plaza have been halted, and the affected building has been handed over to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). According to the district administration, SBCA experts will decide whether the building should be demolished or not.
SUB-COMMITTEE FORMED TO REVIEW INQUIRY REPORT
A sub-committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to review the inquiry report of the Gul Plaza tragedy.
The sub-committee, headed by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, includes provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani and Ziaul-Hassan Lanjar.
The committee will examine the findings of an inquiry committee led by the Karachi commissioner. After examining the Gul Plaza tragedy inquiry report the committee will decide on further action.
Meanwhile, Murad Ali Shah said that affected traders will be given Rs500,000 for a period of two months. He added that alternative shops will also be provided to them within two months. The families of those who lost their loved ones in the incident will be given Rs 10million each.
