ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that when Iran came under attack, Pakistan played a full and effective mediating role, bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table for the first time in 47 years.

Addressing the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference organized by the Pakistan Ulema Council in Islamabad, Dar said that direct talks between the United States and Iran took place for the first time since 1979.

He added that Pakistan urged both the United States and Iran to sit together, after which both parties asked Pakistan to join the talks as well.

According to Dar, while Iran noted that previous engagements had been indirect, 21 hours of negotiations were held in Islamabad between the United States and Iran under Pakistan’s mediation.

Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan is fully committed to safeguarding the holy places in Saudi Arabia, adding that even lives would be sacrificed for their protection.

He described the defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as a significant milestone.

Dar also alleged that India launched an attack on Pakistan based on what he called baseless accusations related to the Pahalgam incident, and said the Pakistani nation demonstrated exemplary unity in response.

He credited the armed forces, under the leadership of Gen Asim Munir, with securing victory, asserting that no one can cast an evil eye on Pakistan.
