ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted a surprise visit to Islamabad International Airport on Wednesday to review the immigration process for pilgrims and other passengers.
During the visit, the minister inspected the Saudi immigration counters established under the “Road to Makkah” initiative, which allows Hajj pilgrims to complete Saudi immigration procedures at Pakistani airports before departure. He also met with airport staff and reviewed operational arrangements.
Officials briefed the minister that the initiative is enabling faster and more convenient immigration processing for Hajj pilgrims, reducing delays upon arrival in Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims at the airport expressed satisfaction over the arrangements, thanking the interior minister for the improved facilitation.
Passengers and pilgrims said the immigration process was smooth, efficient, and hassle-free, adding that all counters at international arrivals were fully operational and providing timely assistance.
Mohsin Naqvi also inspected the joint search checkpoint and directed authorities to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the security screening system. He emphasized that modern technology is being used to upgrade airport security infrastructure.
He stressed the need to ensure both security and passenger convenience simultaneously, instructing all relevant agencies to work in close coordination. He added that providing uninterrupted facilities to passengers remains a top priority.
Senior FIA officials, including DG FIA Dr. Usman Anwar and FIA Islamabad Zone Director Shahzad Bukhari, were also present during the visit.
