LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Anti-Corruption Establishment has registered a case against more than 12 officials of the Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) over financial irregularities in the ‘Suthra Punjab‘ programme.
According to anti-corruption officials, the investigation revealed that over Rs 1 billion was misappropriated in a project carried out under the provincial cleanliness initiative.
The FIR was registered at the Anti-Corruption Establishment Lahore police station, naming several senior officials including former FWMC CEO Muhammad Rauf, Manager Operations Abdullah Nazeer Bajwa, Manager IT Asad Elahi, Manager Finance Ahsan Nadeem, Transport Officer Arshad Saleem, and Procurement Manager Waqas Asghar, among others.
Investigation revealed that fake attendance records were used for 633 “ghost” sanitation workers, leading to the embezzlement of public funds.
Investigators further found discrepancies in official records, stating that 2,317 containers were shown on paper, while only 1,717 were physically found on site.
The inquiry also unveiled that low-cost loader rickshaws were reportedly used in place of expensive mini dumpers, while payments continued to be made based on higher-rated machinery.
Additional allegations include manipulation of waste enclosure and dumping site data, along with inflated payments and misuse of tracking system records to justify fund withdrawals.
Anti-corruption officials said multiple suspects have been taken into custody, while further investigations into the case are ongoing.
