Summary Met Office forecasts severe heatwave across Sindh from May 25 to 31, with temperatures reaching up to 50°C in some areas.

KARACHI (Web Desk) – A severe heatwave is expected to grip Sindh during the Eidul Azha period, with temperatures likely to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.

Officials said a high-pressure system is expected to develop in the upper atmosphere on May 25, which may strengthen further by May 26.

Under this weather system, moderate to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist across most districts of Sindh from May 25 to May 31.

The Met Office warned that temperatures in upper Sindh districts, including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze, could rise to between 47°C and 50°C.

In rural Sindh areas such as Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro and Sanghar, maximum temperatures may range between 44°C and 47°C.

However, Karachi is not expected to experience a heatwave, though hot and humid conditions will prevail.

The city’s maximum temperature may reach 37°C, while the minimum could remain around 27°C.

Humidity levels are expected to remain between 70 to 80 per cent in the morning and 55 to 65 per cent in the evening, making the heat feel more intense than actual temperatures.

The Meteorological Department advised citizens, especially children, women and the elderly, to take precautionary measures.

People have been urged to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, particularly between 10am and 4pm, and to increase water intake during the hot spell.
