Summary Lesco staff repaired a transformer but demanded Rs80,000, which was collected from villagers through donations and handed over to LESCO personnel
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Two linemen and a line superintendent of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) have been suspended following a social media complaint by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif regarding alleged corruption in the replacement of a transformer.
According to the Executive Engineer (XEN) of the Phool Nagar Division, Line Superintendent Muhammad Hussain, Lineman Shaukat, and Lineman Falak Sher have been suspended.
The XEN stated that a 100-kilowatt transformer was being installed after a 200-kilowatt transformer had burned out.
However, local residents and a coordinator of Khawaja Asif allegedly stopped the LESCO staff from carrying out the installation.
According to the official, he personally visited Chak 27 to investigate the matter, but no evidence was provided to show that LESCO employees had received any money.

The development follows a complaint posted by Khawaja Asif on social media, in which he alleged that a transformer in the village of one of his employees was replaced only after an Rs80,000 bribe was paid.
Sources within Lahore Electric Supply Company said that a private individual named Shabbir had collected money from villagers and had no affiliation with the utility company.
The sources added that a high-level inquiry is underway into the allegations raised in Khawaja Asif’s post.
On the instructions of LESCO’s chief executive, the company’s Directorate of Surveillance and Inspection has launched an investigation into the matter.
