Punjab unveils 'She Threads' initiative to empower rural women

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has decided to allocate Rs310 million for the "She Threads" initiative, a program aimed at enhancing the economic empowerment and vocational skills of rural women through training in the textile sector.

The initiative is open to women aged 18 to 45 from rural areas across the province who have completed at least middle-level education. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of Rs15,000 during training, along with transportation support.

Under the program, women are offered training in 10 different textile-related disciplines designed to improve employability and create pathways to financial independence.

According to officials, textile training courses are currently being conducted in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura and Faisalabad.

Over the past two years, around 2,500 women have successfully completed the program, with 773 securing jobs immediately after graduation.

Authorities said that 1,150 women are currently undergoing training under the She Threads program, while an additional 1,350 women are expected to be enrolled next year.

The available courses include industrial stitching machine operation, fabric quality inspection, fabric cutting, apparel planning and merchandising, apparel supervision, pattern making and cutting, pattern drafting and grading, quality control, garment finishing, packing and garment washing.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government is committed to ensuring that women become financially independent and empowered. She stated that skilled women can become a valuable national asset and highlighted the significant employment opportunities available for trained women in the textile industry.
