ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has appealed to Kashmiri protesters to peacefully end their demonstrations.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Bilawal said that the approaching signing of the Islamabad Agreement represents a historic moment. “At a time when global attention is firmly focused on Pakistan, the ongoing unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is harming not only the Kashmiri cause but also Pakistan’s reputation,” he added.

He warned that the situation was providing hostile elements and what he described as an India-Israel nexus with an unnecessary opportunity to exploit the unrest for their own purposes.

Bilawal appealed to all protesters to end their demonstrations peacefully. He also urged those who have taken the law into their own hands to surrender to local authorities and allow the legal process to take its course.

He emphasized that all political grievances and disputes should be resolved through democratic, constitutional and peaceful means. According to him, parliament and the political process — not the streets — are the appropriate forums for raising and resolving such issues.

The PPP chairman said his party has already called on the Election Commission to withdraw the election schedule announced ahead of time. The party remains committed to pursuing a political solution and will seek the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address pending grievances, move the process forward and bring these matters to a fair and lasting conclusion.

He stressed that the people of Kashmir should not be forced to endure repeated cycles of protests, confrontation and uncertainty.

Bilawal said that if all stakeholders, including the federal government, agree, the government of Azad Kashmir could review notifications issued against protesting groups at an appropriate time. While insisting that there can be no compromise on upholding the rule of law and holding accountable those involved in illegal acts, he said it is equally important to ensure that individuals who have committed no wrongdoing do not suffer the consequences of others’ actions.
