ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A case has been registered against Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, under various provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Noreen made false and baseless allegations against the state and its institutions, including the armed forces, during a podcast interview.
The FIR alleged that she attempted to undermine public confidence in state institutions and create fear and unrest through her statements.
It further alleged that Noreen used social media to disseminate allegedly false, provocative, defamatory and threatening content and was involved in an organised propaganda campaign against state and security institutions.
According to officials, the case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) under Sections 20 and 26-A of PECA 2016 and Sections 505 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The FIR stated that the controversial podcast interview went viral after being shared by various accounts on X. It further added that Noreen attempted to undermine the achievements of the Pakistan armed forces during "Marka-e-Haq" and spread a false narrative intended to create hatred, fear and mistrust towards state institutions.
The document further stated that Noreen had been issued several notices directing her to record her statement and join the investigation. However, authorities said the case was registered after preliminary evidence indicated, prima facie, that an offence had been committed.
The NCCIA said the involvement of any other individuals would be determined during the course of the investigation.
