Summary A special task force will be established under the FIA headquarters to coordinate action against illegal call centres across the country

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government has decided to launch a nationwide crackdown on illegal call centres following reports of foreign nationals allegedly operating an international network involved in cyber fraud and obscene content.

According to sources, a special task force will be established under the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) headquarters to coordinate action against illegal call centres across the country.

The task force will investigate allegations involving extortion, blackmail, gambling and online scams, sources said.

Details of operations conducted against call centres will be submitted to the Ministry of Interior on a daily basis, according to officials.

Authorities have also prepared a list of call centres operating in Karachi, while all relevant institutions have been directed to extend full cooperation to the task force during its operations.

The decision comes days after authorities arrested 284 foreign nationals during a raid on an illegal call centre in Islamabad.

The nationwide operation is aimed at identifying and dismantling illegal call centre networks involved in cybercrime and other unlawful activities, sources said.
