BEIJING (Dunya News) – A leading Chinese company has expressed interest in Punjab’s IT sector during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s visit to China, with discussions focusing on artificial intelligence and technology cooperation.

Maryam Nawaz met a high-level delegation of the Chinese company, where the two sides discussed the use of artificial intelligence in agriculture, healthcare, socioeconomic programmes and climate forecasting.

The meeting also covered the possibility of establishing a strategic partnership for the use of artificial intelligence in public services.

Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz said Punjab’s governance system was being integrated with artificial intelligence. She said the province was pursuing a policy of adopting artificial intelligence and other technologies today rather than waiting for tomorrow.

She said Punjab was building the world’s largest public-sector cancer hospital. She added that Punjab had become the first province to establish an artificial intelligence initiative.

The chief minister said the idea of teaching artificial intelligence to children in government schools came after seeing students in Beijing. She welcomed Chinese cooperation in artificial intelligence and other IT technologies.

Maryam Nawaz said Punjab was the fourth-largest province in terms of its young and skilled workforce and was emerging as a leader in the digital economy.

She said not only government officers and officials but also members of the provincial cabinet had been provided AI training.

The meeting also included discussions on matters related to small and medium enterprises for overseas Pakistanis.
