ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that Pakistan’s policy is clear: the state will not hold talks with terrorists, although it remains open to negotiations with the Afghan Taliban regime.
In an interview with Arab News, the ISPR director general said Pakistan’s main demand from Afghanistan is an end to terrorism against Pakistan being carried out from Afghan soil.
He said the Afghan Taliban government must fulfill the commitments it made under the Doha Agreement. If those commitments are not implemented, Pakistan has the right to defend itself, he added.
“Pakistan can negotiate with Afghanistan, but will not negotiate with terrorists,” the army spokesperson said.
Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry also said that around 80 percent of attackers involved in suicide attacks in Pakistan are Afghan citizens, adding that Afghan nationals are present in formations entering Pakistan from Afghanistan.
Regarding the security situation in Balochistan, the ISPR DG said terrorists do not enjoy public support and are attempting to impose their ideology through force.
He further said Pakistan’s position is that India is sponsoring terrorism in Balochistan, while saying that some content circulated on social media is also being operated from abroad.
Speaking about Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan is prepared to provide practical assistance to the kingdom and will also support Saudi Arabia at the diplomatic level.
He said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security is unconditional and is rooted in what he described as the long-standing, historic and close relationship between the two countries’ peoples and their political and military leadership.
