ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - National coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will meet in Islamabad from September 28 to 30 to discuss the organisation’s programme of activities and other matters during Pakistan’s chairmanship, the Foreign Office said on Sunday.
The meeting will be the first session of the SCO Council of National Coordinators (CNC) to be held under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) for 2026-27.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan’s national coordinator for the SCO will chair the meeting, which will be attended by national coordinators from other member states as well as representatives of the SCO Secretariat.
The participants will discuss a range of issues related to cooperation and coordination within the organisation. The agenda will include activities planned under Pakistan’s chairmanship, preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events, and other organisational matters.

Pakistan has adopted the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity” for its chairmanship.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan would focus on strengthening regional connectivity, promoting innovation, expanding economic cooperation and enhancing people-to-people contacts. Islamabad also intends to work with all SCO members and the organisation’s secretariat to advance these priorities.
The three-day meeting will serve as an initial engagement under Pakistan’s chairmanship and contribute to preparations for several high-level SCO activities planned during the term.
One of the key events will be the meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State, which Pakistan is scheduled to host in Islamabad in August 2027.
Pakistan assumed the SCO CHS chairmanship for 2026-27 during the organisation’s annual summit in Kyrgyzstan in September.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has previously outlined an agenda covering areas including information technology and artificial intelligence, energy, poverty reduction, disaster management, health, culture and sports.
Meanwhile, preparations are also underway in Islamabad for next year’s SCO summit, including the planned upgradation of the Jinnah Convention Centre and efforts to expand the availability of internationally standard hotel accommodation in the capital.
