ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said Wednesday’s meeting with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was not related to the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Speaking to the media, Tarar said the PPP is a coalition partner and is routinely taken into confidence ahead of legislative sessions.
He reiterated that his position on governor’s rule and the imposition of an emergency remains unchanged. “If the constitutional and legal requirements are fulfilled, it is a legal procedure,” he said.
The federal minister said the decision on such a measure would rest with the President and the Prime Minister, as provided under the Constitution.
Commenting on matters related to court orders, Tarar said any decision regarding the release of an individual should be taken by the government or the court, adding that the government would accept whatever decision is made by the judiciary.
He further said that if a demand is found to be unjustified, it should be reviewed, while questioning whether the prevailing conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa meet the requirements for such action.
Tarar also said he had asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) representatives to consider what their position would have been if they were in the government’s place.
“Whenever we speak publicly, our conversation should be measured,” he said.
