Summary Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reviewed KP’s security situation, with Naqvi briefing him on agreed counterterrorism measures and their implementation.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an important meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the latter’s residence, where the overall situation in the country, particularly the law and order and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, came under detailed discussion.

According to sources, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the prime minister on the talks held with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, saying the provincial government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours.

Naqvi informed the prime minister that the KP government decided to back out of the agreed points during the final stage of negotiations. He said the provincial government had also agreed to reconsider the Police Act 2026.

The interior minister said it had been agreed to keep police and security matters free from political interference and prevent terrorists from carrying out activities freely or establishing safe havens in the province. The agreed points also included an unequivocal condemnation of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA) and all other terrorist groups.

The briefing also covered an agreement to support the national policy regarding the repatriation of Afghan refugees. The KP government had also expressed willingness to dismantle Afghan refugee camps in the province. It was further agreed that there would be no provincial-level contact with the interim Afghan government.

The sources said allocating adequate funds for counterterrorism operations and the police was also part of the proposed agreement. The provincial government had agreed to take full responsibility for counterterrorism measures and strengthen cooperation with the armed forces.

Naqvi also briefed the prime minister that implementation of key decisions related to counterterrorism in former FATA and the merged districts had been agreed upon. Effective implementation of the National Action Plan was also among the agreed points.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was currently facing an extremely serious security situation and security matters could not be allowed to become a subject of politics.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said decisions taken to improve the law and order situation must be implemented strictly. He said no one could be allowed to undermine peace in the country or any province, adding that the state’s position against terrorism was clear and there would be no compromise on peace and security.

The meeting also discussed the future strategy for maintaining law and order and tackling terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Possible future measures concerning the province were reviewed, while different options and the way forward were considered to restore peace and ensure the writ of the state.
