Summary Punjab is considering holding local government elections in April 2027 instead of December or January due to expected smog and fog during the winter period.

LAHORE (Dunya News) — The Punjab Local Government Department has started considering a proposal to hold local government elections in April 2027 instead of December or January.

According to sources, the School Education Department has proposed changing the election date due to the possibility of smog and fog in Punjab from December 15 to January 1.

Sources said the Punjab Local Government Department is considering holding the local government elections in April 2027. A detailed briefing on the proposal will be given to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a cabinet meeting.

According to sources, the schedule for the local government elections prepared by the Election Commission will also be presented at the cabinet committee meeting. The final decision regarding the election date will be subject to approval from the chief minister.

Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has also confirmed that the School Education Department’s proposal to change the date of the local government elections is under consideration. He said the chief minister would be briefed on holding the elections in April 2027 instead of December or January.

Officials said a final decision on the new election date, schedule and other administrative matters would be taken after consultation at the relevant forums.
