Summary Authorities will also crack down on vehicles carrying sand, construction debris and hay without proper covering
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Traffic Police has ordered strict action against smoke-emitting vehicles and directed officials to prevent such vehicles from operating on roads, as authorities step up measures to combat smog.
A directive issued to all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) calls for joint checking operations by the traffic police, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Transport Department.
According to the directive, joint checking teams will be formed to identify vehicles emitting excessive smoke and take action against them.
Authorities will also crack down on vehicles carrying sand, construction debris and hay without proper covering. Such loads must be covered with tarpaulin to prevent dust and other particles from spreading onto roads.
The directive further makes it mandatory for all vehicles, including motorcycles, to have functional headlights, rear lights, fog lights and indicators.
Commercial vehicles, heavy transport vehicles, loaders and tractor-trolleys have also been directed to display reflective tapes and stickers for better visibility.
Traffic police have additionally been ordered to intensify enforcement against overspeeding, racing and dangerous driving.
In areas affected by fog, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to park on carriageways or road shoulders.
Officials have also been directed to raise awareness among drivers about maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, reducing speed and using fog lights in low-visibility conditions.
The directive was issued by SSP Headquarters Syed Nadeem Abbas.
