ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - President Asif Ali Zardari chaired a high-level meeting at the President House to discuss the prevailing situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with senior government officials and security authorities in attendance.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Naveed Qamar and Sherry Rehman were also present at the President’s House.
Sources said the participants reviewed reports submitted by national security institutions and discussed a proposal to impose an emergency in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the merged districts.
The meeting also considered proposals to exercise key federal powers to ensure public safety in the province.

Various constitutional options under Articles 232 to 234 of the Constitution were discussed during the meeting, sources added.
According to sources, important decisions concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were taken during the meeting, although details of the decisions were not immediately disclosed.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left the President’s House and returned to the Prime Minister’s House.
The prime minister has also summoned an emergency meeting of the federal cabinet for tomorrow, according to sources.
