Summary The court directed the PMDC to make the question papers from all examinations available on its app without delay

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench has declared the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s (PMDC) practice of taking back MDCAT question papers from candidates after the examination illegal and ordered the authority to upload the papers to its app immediately.

Justice Ahsan Raza Kazmi announced the verdict on Friday after allowing petitions filed by students challenging the practice.

The court directed the PMDC administration to make the question papers from all examinations available on its app without delay. The judge also ordered that the decision be implemented the same day.

During the proceedings, Barrister Imran Afrasiab, representing the petitioners, argued that candidates had a legal and constitutional right to retain their question papers. He maintained that retrieving the papers after candidates had attempted the examination was unlawful, unconstitutional and unethical.

The federal government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Malik Zaheer Arshad.

The petitions were filed by students Rehan Shahid and Anabia Tahir, who challenged the PMDC’s policy of collecting question papers from candidates after the test.

In its ruling, the court directed the PMDC to make the question papers available to candidates, declaring the practice of handing out the papers and subsequently taking them back illegal.
