Summary Maryam Nawaz says Punjab is tackling poverty through housing, education and skills schemes, interest-free loans for rural women and land leases for poor, landless residents.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said her government is taking sustained and practical measures to eradicate poverty, empowering disadvantaged communities through concrete economic policies and public welfare initiatives rather than slogans.

In her special message on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Maryam Nawaz said underprivileged people were being supported through various government schemes, including Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, Parwaaz Card, laptop distribution and the Honhaar Scholarship Programme.

The chief minister said women in rural areas were being empowered financially through skills-development programmes and interest-free loans. She added that under the Dhee Rani Programme, the Punjab government covered all wedding expenses for beneficiaries.

Maryam Nawaz said thousands of acres of government land had been leased to poor and landless rural residents for 10 years under the Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar scheme. The initiative aimed to reduce rural poverty, increase agricultural production and address unemployment.

She further said young people, women and skilled workers were being offered loans on easy terms and at lower markup rates to help them establish their own businesses.
