LIMA, Peru (Reuters) – Hundreds of soccer fans welcomed Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi in Peru's capital Lima on Tuesday, as he and his club team, Inter Miami, traveled to the Andean nation for a match against local powerhouse Universitario.
Messi waved at fans waiting outside his hotel from the back of his team bus while police worked to the clear a path for it.
"I saw him for five seconds... It was beautiful, it was incredible," said fan Carlos Samame.
Inter Miami is scheduled to face Universitario in a friendly match on Wednesday.
