LAHORE (Dunya News) – A large number of citizens and athletes took part in one of Pakistan’s biggest marathon events held in Lahore, alongside a national cycling race featuring participants from across the country.
The cycling race, organised under the direction of the provincial government, began early in the morning from Liberty Chowk. Provincial Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar inaugurated the event by joining cyclists at the starting point.
More than 11,000 participants, including men, women, children and persons with disabilities, competed in various categories. A 21-kilometre marathon and cycling race were held for men, while women competed in 5-kilometre races in both categories.
Families also joined a 2-kilometre fun run, while a 1-kilometre wheelchair race was organised to ensure inclusive participation.
In the 21-kilometre men’s cycling race, Karachi’s Ali Ilyas secured first position, followed by Aqib Shah from Lahore in second place, while Sanaullah from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished third.
In the women’s 5-kilometre cycling race, participants from Karachi dominated all top three positions. Zainab claimed first place, followed by Anisa in second and Rabi in third.
Authorities made strict security arrangements for the event and implemented a special traffic management plan to ensure smooth flow on city roads during the races.
