Summary ICC introduces new playing conditions from October 1, including penalties for time-wasting, ball standards, pink-ball Tests and final-over changes.
DUBAI (Dunya News) – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced several major changes to the playing conditions for international series beginning October 1.
The new rules aim to prevent time-wasting, standardise the quality of cricket balls and provide greater clarity on fielding regulations.
Under the new rules, in men’s cricket, if a batter is not ready to face the next delivery within the stipulated time, they will receive a warning for the first offence and a final warning for the second.
For the third and every subsequent offence, the fielding team will be awarded five penalty runs.
Repeated violations may also result in action under the Code of Conduct.
The ICC has also introduced strict standards for the size and weight of balls used in women’s international cricket. Separate specifications will apply to men’s, women’s and junior cricket.
The ICC has also begun trialling the use of pink balls in daytime Test matches.
In addition, the new rules include changes to the procedure for ending play when a wicket falls during the final over of a day in a Test match.
Under the revised rule, if a wicket falls during the final over of the day, play will not end immediately and the over will be completed.
