MUMBAI (Web Desk): In a surprising revelation, a beggar in India has been found to be a millionaire, owning multiple houses, vehicles, and auto-rickshaws.
The beggar, a physically disabled man identified as Mangi Lal, was often seen sitting quietly on an iron cart in a market area of Indore. He neither asked for alms nor disturbed passersby, yet people voluntarily gave him money, believing him to be needy.
However, during a government-led anti-beggary campaign, authorities uncovered startling details about his financial status. Investigations revealed that Mangi Lal earned around Rs 400 to 500 daily from begging, but his main source of income came from money lending. He would lend money to market traders on a daily or weekly basis and collect interest every night.
Further inquiries showed that the man owns three houses, three auto-rickshaws, and a car. His auto-rickshaws operate on rent, while he has also hired a driver for his car. In addition, he had been allotted a government house on the basis of disability.
Following the revelations, authorities shifted the millionaire beggar to a shelter home as part of the ongoing campaign against professional begging.
