FBR misses tax target, faces shortfall of Rs468bn in first seven months

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has registered a shortfall of Rs468 billion as it missed the tax collection target of first seven months (July-January) in fiscal year 2024-25.
The tax authority collected Rs6,496 billion against the set target of Rs6,964 billion in the seven months. It faced a shortfall of Rs84 billion only in January 2025 as it collected Rs872 billion against the target of Rs956 billion.
Meanwhile, FBR registered a growth of 29 percent in tax collection on month-on-month basis.
During first six months of the current fiscal year, the tax shortfall stood at Rs384 billion. However, it has further widened in January 2025.
