A forced reduction in capacity charges has paved the way for relief to electricity consumers.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Electricity prices are expected to decrease nationwide, including Karachi, under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
According to sources, a forced reduction in capacity charges has paved the way for relief to electricity consumers.
Power distribution companies have submitted an adjustment request to Nepra, proposing a reduction of Rs2 per unit for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25.
If approved, electricity prices will decrease from March 2025, providing relief of over Rs52 billion to the public.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hold a public hearing on these requests on February 12, 2025.
Sources indicate that the reduction will impact electricity tariffs for March, April, and May. The quarterly adjustment will also apply to K-Electric consumers, but lifeline consumers will not receive any relief.
It is worth noting that, except for Karachi, Nepra has already reduced electricity prices five times through monthly adjustments, and a decision on the sixth reduction request is still pending.
