Light diesel became cheaper by Rs2.47 per litre
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government on Friday announced a reduction in petroleum prices by up to Rs5.31 per litre for the next fortnight.
According to a notification from the Finance Ministry, the price of high-speed diesel was cut by Rs5.31 per litre, while petrol saw a slight decrease of 50 paisas per litre.
Additionally, light diesel became cheaper by Rs2.47 per litre, and kerosene oil's price dropped by Rs3.53 per litre.
Petrol, commonly used in private vehicles, motorcycles, and small transport, directly affects middle and lower-income groups. Meanwhile, diesel’s role in heavy transport, agriculture, and railways means its price shifts influence inflation and the cost of essential goods.
Despite maintaining the general sales tax (GST) at zero, the government continues to collect around Rs76 per litre in taxes on petrol and diesel, which includes a petroleum development levy (PDL) of Rs60 per litre and customs duties of Rs16 per litre.
