Summary IMF delegation begins budget talks in Islamabad with Finance Ministry, reviewing tax targets, reforms and economic plans as Pakistan prepares next fiscal year budget
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation has arrived at the Ministry of Finance to begin budget negotiations with Pakistan.
The discussions formally started with an introductory session, marking the beginning of consultations for the preparation of the upcoming federal budget.
According to sources, a series of important meetings have been scheduled between the IMF team and the Ministry of Finance, along with separate talks with officials of the State Bank of Pakistan.
IMF approves $1.2bn loan tranche for Pakistan
During the negotiations, both sides will review key budget targets, tax revenue projections, and broader fiscal reforms. Progress on energy sector reforms and privatisation plans will also be assessed.
Sources further said that preparations for the next fiscal year’s federal budget are expected to be completed within the coming week. The budget will be formulated in line with the prevailing economic situation, and its targets will be finalized in consultation with the IMF before being presented for parliamentary approval, as IMF endorsement of targets remains a key requirement.
The IMF mission is expected to remain in Pakistan until May 20 for ongoing discussions.
