Summary Turkish Petroleum will begin offshore drilling in Pakistan, with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik expecting major investment following exploration activities.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik has said Turkish Petroleum is set to begin offshore drilling in Pakistani waters, which will pave the way for significant investment in the country.
Addressing a ceremony in Lahore, Ali Pervez Malik said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) believed in practical politics, adding that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had made Pakistan an invincible nuclear power.
The petroleum minister said Pakistan emerged as a guarantor of peace and security in the region during the Iran-US war. He said the nation was proud of the Makkah joint agreement, adding that Saudi Arabia’s economic strength, Türkiye’s development and Pakistan’s defence capabilities would play an important role.
He said the entire world had witnessed the expertise and capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Ali Pervez Malik said Pakistan faced economic challenges during the Iran-US war, but Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took difficult decisions and put the country on the path to development.
He said the next destination was achieving success on the economic front.
The minister said that despite limited resources, the government had made every effort to provide relief to the public and control oil prices.
“Petrol is still expensive today, but we have not allowed any shortage of petrol to occur,” he said, adding that neighbouring countries were rationing fuel and providing only two litres of petrol to people upon presentation of their identity cards.
Ali Pervez Malik reiterated that Turkish Petroleum’s offshore drilling operations in Pakistani waters would be followed by a major investment in the country.
