GALLE (Web Desk) – Usman Khawaja has joined the elite list alongside Don Bradman to become only the second Aussie batter to score a double ton at the age of 38 or more.

Usman Khawaja’s marathon innings ended at 232 runs, while skipper, Steve Smith scored 141 before getting out to Vandersay.

Khawaja and Inglis built a crucial 146-run partnership for the fourth wicket, putting the hosts under pressure. However, spinner Prabath Jayasuriya broke the stand with a flatter delivery that found the outside edge of Khawaja’s bat, allowing wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis to take a sharp catch behind the stumps.

Josh Inglis, on his debut, has scored a century with an impressive strike rate of 112. He blasted a century in just 90 balls—the 13th fastest by an Australian—striking 10 boundaries and a powerful six to reach the milestone, with his family present to witness his debut Test.

Sri Lanka spinners, Prabath Jayasuria and Jeffrey Vandersay each claimed two wickets.

Australia had managed to score 330 for the loss of two wickets at the end of Day 1.
