KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan captain Muhammad Rizwan on Tuesday said they would put all out efforts to defend the title of Champions Trophy as much-anticipated event is all set to commence tomorrow, February 19.

Rizwan expressed it in a press conference a day before his side is scheduled to take on New Zealand in opening match of tournament at National Bank Stadium, Karachi, on Wednesday.

Referring to the team’s recent performance in tri-nation series, he said the players were learning from the mistakes and promised a best performance in Champions Trophy.

“After the loss to New Zealand in tri-nation, we got an opportunity to learn from the mistakes,” he said, adding that it helped us to find the shortcomings.

He said Pakistan suffered defeat in recent matches with narrow margin, adding: “We are working to ensure that the match does not slip ways from our hands”.

“As a captain, I feel happy when the team performs well and wins,” the skipper said.

Talking about the squad, he said Haris Rauf is fit as he has taken part in practice sessions. He said there are options available for openers in the team, adding that Babar Azam is a technical player, and he will open.

The ICC event should be enjoyed by the whole nation, he said while acknowledging that stadiums have been built in record time.

He recalled that Pakistan has achieved great successes in the past, adding that foreign players also trying to learn from some of our national cricketers.
