Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discuss the question with him
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A final decision on whether Pakistan will participate in the T20 World Cup 2026 being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka or not will be made on Monday (today).
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discuss the question with him.
According to sources, the decision to participate or withdraw from the World Cup will be taken on the Prime Minister’s directives.
Earlier, while speaking to national cricketers, Naqvi said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s stance is based on principles.
Pakistan supported Bangladesh while keeping the golden principles of cricket in mind, he added.
The PCB chief stated that politicising cricket was not in anyone’s interest and that the PCB would fully implement whatever decision was made by the government of Pakistan regarding the World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced Bangladesh’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup and has included Scotland in the tournament in its place. The Bangladesh Cricket Board requested the cricket governing body to shift its matches from India to Sri Lanka citing security concerns. The ICC had last year done so when India refused to play in Pakistan and shifted matches to Dubai.
The T20 World Cup will begin on February 7, and Pakistan’s matches in the event are scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka.
