KARACHI (Dunya News) – Police on Saturday night claimed to have arrested over 12 suspected extortionists – two of them are high-profile ones - in a raid conducted on information given by an under custody suspect during interrogation, Dunya News reported.
The raid was carried out jointly by SIU and CIA in Nazimabad. The suspected criminals identified as Jawad Qadri alias Khawaja and Shahzaib Mula were arrested during a raid on Qadri House.
According to SIU SSP Dr Imran, the suspects are involved in dozens of cases of extorting money from innocent people at gunpoint. Police also recovered a huge cache of illegal weapons, the SSP said, revealing the action was taken on information of the suspects’ accomplice Rehan arrested a few days ago.
Dr Imran added that the arrested suspects have also been involved in cases of murder and attempted murder.
They were running a network, Khatiya Wari, of shooters for targeted killings for extortion, besides possessing weapons.
On the other hand, the leadership of Qadri House described the police action against the law, claiming the weapons recovered from the house are legal.
Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, while holding a press conference after the police raid, said, ‘My family was disrespected, we have always condemned terrorism and made sacrifices, we demand that action be taken against the entire team involved in this raid, otherwise there will be protests across the country.
