LAHORE (Dunya News) - Renowned poet Nasir Kazmi, regarded as a pioneer of modern Urdu ghazal, passed away 53 years ago today (Sunday).

Born on December 8, 1925, in Ambala, India, Kazmi's real name was Syed Nasir Raza Kazmi. After completing his early education in Ambala, he enrolled at Government College Lahore, but due to the turmoil of partition, he could not complete his degree.

Initially inspired by Akhtar Sheerani’s romantic style, Kazmi later devoted himself to ghazal writing, producing remarkable collections like Barg-e-Ne, Deewan, Pehli Barish, Nishat-e-Khwab, Aitibar-e-Naghma, and Khushk Chashme Ke Kinare.

Kazmi also served as the editor of various literary journals before joining Radio Pakistan Lahore, where he remained until his last days.

He passed away on March 2, 1972, due to stomach cancer. However, his ghazals continue to captivate poetry lovers, keeping his literary legacy alive.
