LAHORE (Dunya News) - The 47th death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet, humorist, and writer Ibn-e-Insha is being observed today, as admirers across the country pay tribute to his timeless literary contributions.
Ibn-e-Insha, whose real name was Sher Muhammad Khan, was born on June 15, 1927, in a village near Jalandhar. He was a versatile literary figure who left a lasting mark on Urdu literature through poetry, satire, travelogues, and translations. In recognition of his outstanding services to literature, he was awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance.
He completed his BA from the University of the Punjab in 1946 and later earned an MA from the University of Karachi in 1953. Ibn-e-Insha gained widespread popularity for his unique blend of romance, humor, and sharp social commentary.
His notable works include “Chand Nagar,” “Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitaab,” “Chalte Ho To Cheen Ko Chaliye,” and “Duniya Gol Hai.” His travelogues are particularly admired for their witty, satirical style and keen observation of society and culture.
Ibn-e-Insha passed away on January 11, 1978, and was laid to rest at Paposh Nagar Cemetery in Karachi. Even after 47 years, his literary legacy continues to inspire readers and writers alike.
