Power fully restored across Pakistan, reason for major breakdown still unknown, says Dastagir
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The electricity supply was restored fully on Tuesday after a countrywide major power breakdown which was caused by an abrupt drop in the frequency system of the national grid at 07:34am Monday.
Federal Minister for Energy Engineer Khurram Dastagir claimed that 1,112 grid stations were now actively supplying power to all parts of the country.
Addressing a presser, he said loadshedding would take place in the coming 48 hours because nuclear and coal power plants required up to 48 hours to be operated fully. Admitting that the ministry was still unable to detect the technical fault in the power system, Mr Dastagir said the possibility of external interference like hacking would be investigated.
He, however, said the chances of external interference with the help of internet were meagre, adding that a three-member committee led by State Minister Musaddiq Malik had been constituted by the premier to probe the matter. He said one unit of each Sahiwal and Engro Coal Power plant had started work on Monday. There would be a shortage of electricity for the next 48 hours and limited power loadshedding would be carried out, he added.
However, the minister made it clear that industrial consumers would be exempt from the power loadshedding as per the policy of the government.
The day-long power outages disrupted the routine life across the country on Monday, with fluctuating Internet services and electricity generators fully exhausted by evening due to constant burden and functioning.

The people of Karachi are still suffering power outages in different parts depsite tall claims by the K-Electric. Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Sarjani Town, Orangi Town, Defence, Garden, Saddar, North Nazimabad, Ittehad Town, Lyari and others.
Sources in K-Electric told Dunya News that the national grid had yet to supply full power to Karachi against the demand of 1,500MW. They said K-Electric power plants were generating 700MW power only.
