Sindh local government elections will take place on June 15
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The election commission of Pakistan (ECP) has unveiled the election schedule for the mayor, deputy mayor, chairman, and vice chairman positions in the Sindh local government. The announcement came on Wednesday, providing crucial dates for the upcoming electoral process.
As per the schedule, the Sindh local government elections for mayor, deputy mayor, chairman, and vice chairman will take place on June 15. Nomination papers can be submitted by candidates on June 9 and 10, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on June 11.
Candidates will have the option to withdraw their papers until June 14, a day before the polling is set to occur. On June 15, voting will commence at 8am and continue until 5pm.
The ECP stressed that the elections will be conducted in a transparent and lawful manner. It has explicitly stated that no development work or announcements can be made until June 15. Furthermore, government officials are prohibited from misusing or exercising their powers illegally.
It should be noted that during a recent session of the Sindh assembly, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had called for the completion of the mayor and deputy mayor elections in the first week of June. The PPP further urged the newly elected local government representatives to present the local government's budget after taking the oath of office.
